At the first stages of the Second World War, the German Army was characterized by a tactic innovation ability way superior to the one of the Allied armies, factor that allowed it to surpass them on countless situations. The main and best known of those innovations was the Blitzkrieg or “Lightning War”, that implied the coordination of diverse arms and forces to carry an initial bombardment, followed by a quick attack by surprise of mobile forces that prevented the enemy to defend themselves properly.

For the infantry, that meant a unit reorganization that gained a much more mobile character. Among other improvements, they received high numbers of medium and light machine guns that served perfectly both for support and defense functions. The MG-42 machine gun was designed as an improvement of the already existing MG-34. Its reliability, precision, durability, rate of fire and simplicity made it quickly the best machine gun of the conflict in its class. It also have been the base for several successful postwar designs.

Our miniature portrays a machine gun server from the Waffen-SS with winter equipment that can be painted in several choices. With some slight modifications, it can also be used for portraying a soldier from the Heer.
